After a long-haul trip from Sydney to London to introduce her mum to her first grandchild, Sydney mum Emma Lovell and her 5-month-old daughter were both desperate for sleep. The TV screens, EXIT signs and toilet lights on the plane were too stimulating resulting in Emma’s daughter being awake for almost the entire duration of the 24 hour flight.
On additional long-haul flights from the UK to Australia to care for her sick mother, Emma tried to create an in-flight canopy using single sheets and masking tape to shield her baby from the endless disruptions on a plane and help her sleep. Nothing worked.
